About Us

We are a local photography club based in West Wickham, Kent.
The West Wickham Photographic Society was founded in 1944 and has been regularly meeting since that time. Members past and present have gained awards for their photographic ability and are encouraged to pass on their Knowledge.

The Society aims to provide a friendly atmosphere where members can discuss both the technical and artistic problems of picture taking, with the emphasis being on improving the quality of their work rather than the equipment used to produce it, allowing members to do well with modest kit.

The Society welcomes photographers of all skill levels from novices to professionals. Everybody is welcome to just come along and watch what we do, though newcomers can expect to be encouraged to participate in the society's activities.

Our only expectation is that you have a camera and want to use it.

Although a few members still have usage of film cameras, the greater majority, are up to date with digital cameras/printers and all the associated equipment. Setting up and usage of the latest equipment is one area we like to feel we can help people the most with.

Like all camera clubs we hold competitions in the different classes of photography. The main purpose for these is to hear the commentary given by an outside photographer on how the images being viewed can be improved. The aim is for the photographer to receive impartial feedback on their images to assist their development and provide an outlet for their work. The platform provides an an insight into the work of others and inspiration for future projects.

To keep up the standard of the society’s members, the club competes in Inter Club Competitions either as a Society entry or in the support of an individual member's entry.

The Society is affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain through the Kent County Photographic Association. It is also a Member of the Federation of South London Photographic Societies (FSLPS).
